Featured Artist

Alan Petersen

Alan Petersen began his career as an architect, graduating from the University of Nebraska school of architecture in 1956. After setting up his architectural practice in Denver in 1962, his first project was the Feline House at the Denver Zoo.

In 1972 Petersen took 2 weeks off to attend a workshop given by Milford Zorns  and was named best professional artist. After joining the Foothills Center in Golden, Colorado, he won a number of awards and went on to be president of the Center's board.

Over the years, in spite of developing a successful architectural practice, he managed to continue to paint and win awards.

In 1988, Petersen relocated to Trinidad, Colorado and became actively involved in the A.R. Mitchell Museum, serving as volunteer curator. He is currently working on the SPACe building expansion, developing the working plans.

Nature has always been the inspiration for his watercolor paintings. "This area expresses the absolute unity of nature at a minimum of one hundred paintings per mile, with 360 degree views on the level, looking up or looking down." Petersen now paints mostly full time.
