About the art teacher…Ms. Nanci Rollins

I am Nanci Rollins and I teach K-12 art at La Veta Schools. I am originally from Billings, Montana and I attended college at Montana State University in Bozeman, Mt.  I have a Bachelor of Art in Art Education and a Bachelor of Fine Art in Painting/Printmaking.  My own artwork is mostly abstract and very colorful; this influences the projects that I do with the students.

"I feel that art is important at any age. It has been a little challenging with such a wide range of students but I feel that everyone has done very well.  I try to show that there are many different ways to define art and the language of it through the projects that we do. I introduce a variety of materials and techniques so the students get a sense of how broad the art world can be!"

Some of the Jr/Sr High School work displayed used drawing techniques such as the grid system, perspective and shading. We worked with paint while creating Celtic Knots for the Celtic Festival last Fall and adding details to our paper mache’ creatures. Some students got a taste of printmaking by doing linoleum block print. Collage techniques used magazines to make colorful images and foil to create a repoussé that used as a picture frame around an oil pastel drawing. Other students used oil pastel to do a triptych.
