Guest Artist Vincent Crotty Vincent Crotty is an Irish native who paints a wide variety of subjects, including the pastoral scenes of Ireland. He immigrated to Dorchester in 1991 and many of his paintings have been inspired by his adopted home. "Painting from life as often as he can, Vincent’s plein air approach creates a feeling of spontaneity and ease in his work. His paintings tell a story, convey vivid moods, and depict an immediate sense of place and time. His paintings of Boston and New England towns celebrate the often-overlooked, gritty corners of urban American life. In Ireland, he captures the silvery gleam of wet galvanized roofs, and bursts of winter sunshine illuminating the wild landscape. With a style that is loose and fresh, he works from intuition and inspiration, expressing a highly individual vision in contemporary representational painting." Crotty was selected as the 2007 recipient of the Eddie Barron Memorial Commission – a grant sponsored by the Irish Cultural Centre of New England. The grant commissions a New England artist (in any discipline) to create a new work that reflects contemporary Irish and Irish-American culture. Vincent Crotty’s painting “Kanturk Town, Spring” was named “Best in Show” in the 2008 Winter Juried Show at the Duxbury Art Association. This annual competition receives entries from over 500 artists. Crotty's wife, Kieran Jordan is an acclaimed Irish dancer and choreographer and appears in the Huerfano County's annual Celtic Festival. Below are a few of the oil paintings in the show by guest artist Vincent Crotty. In the picture above, there are small plein air oils that Crotty has done in just a few days while staying in La Veta.
