2011 Colorado Expressions

This juried show is all about Colorado. Artwork was judged on the success of the artist expressing something about the show subject. Award judge was La Veta artist Joan Hanley.

Joan Hanley, Judge

Born in New York City to highly creative parents, Joan Hanley came to La Veta in 1994.  Her artistic talents were enhanced through studies at the American Academy of Art, Chicago; the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Dartmouth College, University of Colorado, Honolulu Academy of Art and  with a BFA in 1967 from the University of Hawaii. She raised a family of five children, taught art and established a successful career as a painter, sculptor and illustrator.

After taking a 3 year course in lost wax bronze sculpture, Joan became prolific in the creation of many outstanding bronze sculptures, including life size images commissioned by individuals, universities, and townships.

She founded the La Veta Gallery of Fine Art and is a faculty member of the La Veta School of the Arts. Joan is a truly versatile artist who excels in everything she does.

The show includes two whimsical paintings by Joan that were inspired by petroglyphs.
