Gallery Building Changes

The Gallery building of the Spanish Peaks Arts Council got a facelift in 2005. In the future we hope to also add on to the building to provide much needed storage space and a workshop area. Having the storage space will enable us to take in shipped artwork and better coordinate taking down and hanging up shows. It would also give us more space for our shows and for the gift shop.
The first phase of the "facelift" was the new stucco that can be seen on our home page.
The second phase was the scraping off the peeling paint from the window frames and vegas, and repainting them. Here are some pictures from that project, done entirely by volunteers

October 15, 2005

Bob Buckner and Keith Bakeman applying primer, after scraping off the old brown paint.

Ann Gethen, Nancye Culbreath, and Polly Harris prepare the primer.

The primer is blue!

Nancye and Bob start painting on the actual paint. Notice the colorful flowers painted and donated by artist Ann Gethen (see her below)

It proved to be a perfect day for the task. Somewhat cloudy and cool while the scraping was being done, then sunny when it came time to paint. We were accosted by millions of "dobie" bugs--they're everywhere, including on the paint. (This is just the lid....they weren't really in the paint!)  Thanks again to Ann Gethen for painting the lovely flowers for the window shades, and to Mary Jean Fowler for purchasing, cutting and sewing the shades.

Be sure to check on this page from time to time for other changes to the building and any progress on our expansion plans.
